Welcome to the Pre-Licensed Support Corner!

The idea is to have a space or corner so to speak, specifically to address the needs, issues, and concerns of pre-licensed members. If you are interested in submitting an article or would like to suggest a topic of interest please email Jessica Gillooly at gillooly@glendale.eduor Pat Grijalva at stress.free2@verizon.net. You can also give us a call at (626) 915-7581 ext. 113.

You are invited to join San Gabriel Valley Chapter of CAMFT. As you probably know, CAMFT is the organization for California Marriage and Family Therapists. Each area of California has a local chapter. Membership in CAMFT is required to be able to join a local chapter. The San Gabriel Valley Chapter covers a large geographical area North and East from Los Angeles to Pomona Valley.

Why Join?

SGV CAMFT has dedicated licensed members serving a pre-license liaison to assist students, trainees and interns.
Pre-licensed members receive email updates on available job openings with pertinent contact information.
Receive information assisting you throughout your journey towards licensure as you gather your 3000 hours.
Special networking meetings to meet other pre-licensed members.
SGV CAMFT has regular meetings to provide 1.5 hours for your workshop hours towards licensing.

Jessical Gillooly, MFT

Jessica is excited to be Co-Chair for the Pre-Licensed members of San Gabriel Valley Chapter of CAMFT. She enjoys students and interns who are entering the therapy field and hopes to get to know many of you in more depth as the year progresses.

Jessica Gillooly, MFT has Master’s Degrees, in both Special Education and Psychology. She became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 1979, and started her private practice in the Glendale/Pasadena area that same year. In 1980 she began teaching part-time at Glendale Community College in the Psychology Division. She taught a variety of courses and enjoyed lecturing found the complement between private practice and college teaching to be a good fit for her.

She completed her Ph.D. in psychology in 1991 and was hired full-time tenure track at Glendale Community College and is currently Professor of Psychology. She was named “Distinguished Faculty Member” for 2002 by the faculty, students, and administrators.

In addition to teaching psychology courses at Glendale Community College and her private practice, she is Past-President of San Gabriel Valley Chapter of California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

Dr. Gillooly created Domestic Violence Awareness Week at the college in 1995 and is a past coordinator of GCC’s Women’s History Month. In 1999 she was awarded the “Women Helping Women Award” from Soroptomist of Glendale.

It was while she was teaching one of her Psychology of Women’s classes, that she got the inspiration for a book targeted to parents’ of young daughters. Her book entitled, Before She Gets Her Period; Talking With Your Daughter About Menstruation won the 2001 National Association of Parenting Publishers’ Award for Excellence in its category.

Dr. Gillooly’s private practice consists of working with individuals, couples, families, and small groups. Her clients are adolescents and adults who desire positive changes in their interpersonal relationships whether in the family, school, or work environment.
She is also an avid reader, gardener and says she plays tennis for exercise and fun.

Pat Grijalva

Pat Grijalva is a licensed member of the Pre-licensed Support Committee. She is in private practice and has offices in Covina and Glendora. Pat will be glad to assist student and intern members of San Gabriel Valley CAMFT.
