At this full-day workshop CAMFT staff attorney David Jensen, J.D. will review the following subjects: the Standard of Care, i.e., working principles of negligence law as they pertain to psychotherapists; the importance of clarifying who is and who is not the patient; the importance of the treatment plan; one’s constitutional right to privacy and how it relates to confidentiality and the psychotherapist-patient privilege; patients dangerous to themselves; patient’s dangerous to others; a dose of HIPAA; and supervisors and supervisees.

David Jensen has been Staff Attorney with CAMFT since April 2002. David graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor's degree in History. He received his law degree from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California. As an attorney with CAMFT, he consults with members regarding legal and ethical dilemmas, and he is a regular contributor to The Therapist magazine. David gives numerous chapter, school, and agency law & ethics presentations and has developed "What Does the Law Expect of Me?"

CEU Provider # PCE 295:  This course meets the qualifications for six (6). Continuing education units for MFTs and/ LCSWs.  At least six (6) units of Legal and Ethical training are required for license renewal every two (2) years at the anniversary of your license.

About Westminster Counseling Center:  The Center has been providing individuals, couples and families with quality mental health services for over 30 years.  The staff of over twenty therapists includes licensed MFTs, LCSWs, interns and paraprofessionals.  They represent a broad diversity of experience and expertise to serve client’s needs.  Located in a neighborhood setting, the center also provides many programs and services to the community.  Some of these include a program for pre-marital counseling, a speaker’s bureau, outreach to schools and other organizations, and workshops for the public as well as professionals.  Fees for all services are based on a sliding scale.  Westminster is committed to serve those persons who otherwise might not be able to afford therapy.  The center is a private, non-profit organization supported by the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Pasadena and sponsored by the Board of Trustees of the Church.  The Center is independent and self-assisting and does not promote any particular religious beliefs.  Your referrals are welcome.  Please contact Judy McCord, Director, at (626) 798-0915.
