Michelle Kobayashi is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in Los Angeles, CA. Michelle enjoys working with adults who would like to process through losses, including the loss of a loved one through death or separation or the grief they’ve held onto since childhood, the grief that they did not receive the love and attention they needed when they were growing up.
Many of Michelle’s clients find themselves stuck in conflict with others, which may directly relate to their past experiences of neglect. They also feel anxious and can resort to people pleasing tendencies, prioritizing other people’s needs over their own, leaving them feeling fatigued or burned out.
Michelle practices evidence-based therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Compassion-based therapies to help clients build strong, healthy patterns. Clients learn how to avoid unhelpful assumptions and self-judgments, instead replacing them with more perspective and friendly thoughts. They also learn from Michelle how to let themselves off the hook for their mistakes, forgiving themselves for not being perfect. Michelle creates an atmosphere in sessions that feels calm, warm, and welcoming. Clients can express their feelings and talk through their thoughts, ideas, and needs. In this way they can learn to be their own therapist and true to themselves.
Michelle earned a Master’s degree from Antioch University. She has over 10 years of experience in the mental health field, and is passionate about teaching clients how to feel comfortable with who they are and implement mindfulness and self-compassion strategies in their daily lives.
