My experience in a large, multicultural family has provided insight into the complex dynamics that emerge when different generations navigate cultural transitions together. I understand how family members can have vastly different experiences of cultural identity, even within the same household, and how these differences can create both connection and tension. This lived experience has shaped my deep understanding of generational trauma, how unhealed wounds get passed down through families, and how cultural expectations can both protect and constrain us. I've seen how well-intentioned parents sacrifice everything for their children's success, yet struggle to understand why their efforts sometimes feel rejected. I've witnessed children who love their families deeply but feel suffocated by expectations they never chose. These patterns aren't failures of love; they're communication breakdowns that can be repaired. My bicultural perspective allows me to recognize both the protective aspects of traditional family structures and the individual growth needs that can sometimes feel at odds with family expectations. I understand how cultural values like family loyalty can coexist with personal development when families learn to communicate more effectively across these differences.
