Description and Focus

My hope is that other therapists will embrace this anti-diet stance and it will become a part of what this chapter stands for from an intersectional point of view.

Weight stigma and fatphobia continue to be validated when clients practice weight-loss goals for the purpose of meeting the Diet Culture's version of the ideal body.

  • Support other like minded therapists who currently use and/or support Intuitive Eating and HAES
  • Provide education on the fallacy of the thin ideal and the inherent dangers that accompany it when it is an individual goal
  • Provide education to therapists to enable them to take this stance with clients who are chronic dieters
  • Provide training to therapists to enable them to treat clients
  • Provide education and training to other professionals
  • Create a presence in the community
  • Partner with associated professionals (doctors, dietitians, nutritionists, etc.) to increase awareness of the value in taking an anti-diet stance.

Our Facilitator

Lynn Aguilar, is a mom, a wife, a grandmother, a reformed dieter and a therapist. She knows that talking about dieting and body image can be a delicate subject. Lynn hopes she can make it easier for you by sharing a little about herself, and how she views her work as a therapist.

Lynn retired from accounting in 2008, went back to school for an additional degree, and began treating clients in 2014. She has struggled with disordered eating for most of her life and her work is focused around helping others heal from it. As she worked through her own eating issues, Lynn quickly realized that it wasn't about the food. It goes beyond the food.

You can find out more about Lynn at lynnaguilar.com. She is certified in EMDR, a Consultant in Training for EMDR, and she is a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. She is also trained in (IFS) Internal Family Systems.
