Program Description

Although most therapists say they use a “systems approach” to infidelity, it’s hard to maintain that perspective when cases are conceptualized as involving a selfish Betrayer and a heartbroken Betrayed. Learn fresh ways of looking at online and offline affairs, fidelity, and sexuality—to better evaluate patients, sort out individual and relationship issues, and help people heal from the experiences of powerlessness, disorientation, grief, rage, and damaged self-esteem that are common on both sides of betrayal.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Participants will be able to assess the power dynamics in relationships after the discovery of infidelity.
  2. Participants will be able to state the intrapsychic issues often implicated in infidelity.
  3. Participants will be able to identify the dynamics of successful reconciliation after infidelity.
  4. Participants will be able to explain the role of self-discipline in couples processing infidelity.

This course meets the qualifications for 1.5 continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Association of Marriage Family Therapists. This course is intended for beginning to advanced mental health professionals.
