Della Martin Outpatient Psychiatric Services

Della Martin outpatient psychiatric services provide Partial Hospitalization, an Intensive Outpatient Program and Chemical Dependency Outpatient Program for adults with psychiatric and/or chemical dependencies who are experiencing moderate to severe symptoms.  Patients receive therapeutic services, observation and interventions geared toward returning to the community and to improve function. The program operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lunch and local transportation is provided each treatment day.

Neurobiology and Applications in the Clinical Setting

Carolyn Wheeler, MA, LMFT, EMDR Certified therapist


This workshop will introduce the Big “T” Little “t” trauma model, neurobiological impact of trauma, research supporting EMDR effectiveness, the Adaptive Information Processing Model and bilateral stimulation, EMDR standard protocol,  and clinical applications.

Included will be a discussion of positive affect tolerance, proposed theories of why EMDR works, common myths associated with EMDR, importance of future templates and case material.

Carolyn Wheeler, LMFT specializes in treating trauma and addiction. She presented on trauma, addiction, shame, neurobiology of trauma and cultural diversity at conferences.

She is an EMDR Certified Therapist, trained in the Trauma Resiliency Model, addictions and co-occurring disorders and is a California Board of Behavioral Sciences approved clinical supervisor.

She has over a decade of experience working with children, adolescents and families involved with DCFS and the juvenile justice system. In her private practice she uses a combination of mind body approaches, EMDR, addiction and recovery models, neurobiology, and family systems theory in treating her clients.
